The albatross, ocean loving seabird, is one truly remarkable feathered friend. With over 22 varieties, they can be found in the Southern and Northern Pacific Ocean. 19 of the 22 Albatross Species are threatened are endangered or threatened with extinction. An Albatross can live for over 40 years, and there are documented cases where an Albatross has lived over 60 years. This 60 year old Albatross named, Wisdom, was still producing offspring in her 60th year of life. Wisdom has been followed by scientists since 1947. Wisdom lives on Midway Atoll, a Hawaiian island with over 450,000 mating pairs of Albatross. This species is named the Laysan Albatross and is know for its gliding flight, clumsy landing and fancy mating rituals. There has been a lot of concern in recent years that pollution from plastic is effecting the Albatross population on Midway Atoll. In 2006, President George W. Bush dedicated a Midway Atoll National Wildlife refuge.
